The Brief
Maiyas is a processed foods company from Karnataka specializing in traditional South Indian food. They were adapting a new store-cum-restaurant format to one of their outlets. This quick service format needed an identity of its own while at the same time captured the brand’s legacy and its iconic stature. They wanted the space to reflect the brand’s philosophy and its founder fathers’ passion for food, through design.
The Strategy
Maiyas has over 360 traditional food products. We decided to tell their story through their own products; and in doing so, represent South Indian food like never before. We decided to treat it like a reintroduction of traditional food to the modern consumer base.
The Solution
We converted all major Maiyas products into simple, illustrations with traditional Indian
motifs and a write-up about the brand. We placed framed portraits of the founder of Maiyas along with his story and using shelf talkers we highlighted the USPs of the products displayed. The designs showcased the brands passion for great food and the told the story of its heritage and products.
The Results
The design of the store was widely accepted and became very popular amongst Maiyas customers. So much so that it led to an expansion in the new store format. Mayias opened over 6 other new-format stores in Karnataka all with the easily adaptable design that reflected their brand outlook – “Made with Love.”
